Back In The Jungle

I'm back in my beloved UKM, where there is no water heater, air con, or mummy's cooking. It's now freezing water, sometimes sweaty nights, and oily cafeteria food!
When I came back, the first sight that greeted me in the residential college's grounds was that of a whole bunch of freshies sitting on the ground, staring at the facilitators in awe.

THAT WAS ME, TWO YEARS AGO.

Holy crap! Damn fast, TOO damn fast.

Here is a nostalgic stroll down memory lane:

This is me, on the morning of my very first day of being a university student! At home, at about 6 something in the morning, all packed up and ready to take my first steps into a new world. Yes, I had long, CURLY hair. No, I wasn't forced to perm it. No, I don't regret it!

Here's what has happened since that first morning:
I've met INSANE people I love. Clockwise from centre, Chrissy, Tootsie, Shel, Sasa, and moi.
My roomie for a year, Hani Bunny. Our love will continue even though we're not roomies anymore!
See?

I've participated in fun things!
Me and Seen (choir senior) before our choir performance for the National C-Something Women's Organization (NCWO).

The whole choir! Don't we look awesome?? So 1Malaysia.

Me and Nana, the hideous purple outfits were for the benefit of the graduating seniors.. The choir was the entertainment during the convocation ceremony!

Say 'hello' to the tugu my team made for some tugu-building competition. We won second place only, bugger.. We should've gotten first! Muthu, Ah Peng and Siti, all linking hands. So 1Malaysia (and this is before Najib came up with the term! Muahaha *bangga*)!

College dinner, themed 'Corporate'. Yes, lame theme. To make matters worse, we had a colour scheme: Red, black and white. Hence, we all look like monochromatic wage slaves. This is my best 'stressed corporate woman' face, btw.

I've had good times
Me and Chrissy! <3

Look at THAT! UKM is really gorgeous. Taken while strolling back after swimming at our golf course. Sorry la, not SLR quality.. I took it with my phone!

In short, I've had a blast in UKM, and here's to my final year! May it be the best year EVER!

*excited*

To get myself into the studying mood, I bought myself Disney Princess stationery - a test pad and a note book! Teeheehee.

Aren't they GORGEOUS??

Dear Germany..

.. I confess to finding myself bewildered by your poor show last night. Where was your fluidity? Where was your stupendous attacking power? Mueller is clearly the pin that holds the whole team together - without his presence, you just fell apart. It was painful to watch you get your arse handed to you by a not-so-good Spain. They weren't that good either, but in the battle of who was worse, you won.

I know that you're more used to playing fast, attacking football, and Spain's slow and easy strategy was frustrating, at best. And stuck back into your half of the field for ages at a go was shite.

Klose, my darling, you didn't shine at all. WTF man. You're sleeping on the couch tonight.

Bah.
 Bottom line is,

you sucked last night.

Was it the octopus?
If so, vengeance shall be miiiiineeeeeeeeeee *eats octopi in preparation for my German octopus meal*

Anyway, since the milk has already been gone and spilt, all there's left to say is

I still love you, so do your best and make us all proud! Third place is nothing to scoff at - look where all the other big guns are: AT HOME. You've done damn well throughout the whole competition, so do damn well in the battle for third!

Ich liebe dich! <3

Lindsay Lohan Arrested and Edward Cullen Kidnapped!

Well, not really. The Edward Cullen bit, I mean. Here is a hilarious video of a Russian woman making off with a cutout of Edward Cullen in a cinema. Desperate much?

Hello, Olga. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure that the cutout won't be able to murmur Edward Cullen-esque babble into your ear. He WILL, however, be able to creepily watch you sleep like how he does Bella. And maybe sparkle like a damned fairy, if you apply glitter glue to his cardboard face.

Ladies and gentlemen, this video is proof that the brain cell-murdering disease that is Twilight mania is now an international plague. We need to do the world a favour and put down all those infected. Symptoms include: Mindless gushing over Robert Pattinson and his greasy hair, thinking Kristen Stewart is a good actress, and wanting to be like a clingy, emotionally unbalanced freak (a.k.a Bella), and placid acceptance of what is CLEARLY a paedophilic relationship.

P/S: HE'S NOT EVEN HOT. Wtf. Kidnap Jacob la!

Now THIS one is worth kidnapping!

Anyway, moving on. LINDSAY LOHAN has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in in-patient rehab!

Talk about shocking! Not. She's been troubled for so long, flirting with the law on so many many occasions, it's hardly surprising that she's going into the slammer; it's still a bit disconcerting though, to realise that

THIS

is now
THIS.

It's really sad, considering she has bucketloads of talent
On the plus side, talent never really goes away. And if she quits effing up her life, she would be able to make a comeback, easy.
Sigh.
Well, make sure not to drop the soap, Lindsay (and don't piss off any large lesbians).. We'll see you on the other side of 180 days.

Please make more awesome movies.

No Twilight crap.

Plastic Surgery: Yea or Nay?

The other day, I read Xiaxue's blog post on her plastic surgeries (yes, she did two eye jobs at the same time!) with mixed feelings:

On one hand, I applauded her balls in admitting she has had surgery done. I mean, it's so tedious and predictable when people get stuff done to themselves, and then deny it. If you're going to do it, then admit it! That's what Xiaxue did, so good on her.

On the other hand, I was cringing like mad to see the pictures of her reddened eyeballs. Like, seriously. I am a big baby when it comes to pain, so I cannot even fathom going to a doctor ON YOUR OWN INITIATIVE and having him POKE AT YOUR EYEBALLS. Holy crapballs, man! I even shudder at the thought of Lasik even though it's just lasers, that's how freaked I am about doing stuff to my eyes.

My idea of Lasik surgery.

And then, today I read this article

S’porean seeks sponsor to enlarge breasts

and wondered "WHY IS EVERYBODY DOING IT??"

This girl is so despo that she actually posted on her blog, seeking SPONSORS for her boob job. Okay, I don't think this girl is very smart, because

  1. she's surprised that she has gotten unsavoury responses: for instance, one guy said that he'd sponsor, if she'd allow him to fondle them. Eh, woman, OBVIOUSLY he'd say that right? Or else what does he get? Being a Good Samaritan never got anyone laid, dummy. And
  2. she wants to enlarge her size from a 29A to a 32C. Um. The boob job will change your cup size, but I highly doubt they will change your underbust (the number is your underbust, in inches). Unless you want to be 3 inches fatter in diameter, I dont think sticking some saline or silicone or whatever into your funbags are going to do anything to your underbust. Sorrylah.

Anyway, there seems to be a happy ending in sight for her, since a couple of clinics want to sponsor her and maybe tattoo their contact number onto her tummy while she's unconscious, so that when she's on that bikini show, it's like free advertising! and make her dreams come true. Btw, I've watched that Bored in Bikinis show. Dude, you don't really have to do your face as well to join. I've seen some ugleh ones. Just get bigger boobs, don't mess with your face.

Anyway, I have to say that I'm quite undecided on the whole plastic surgery thing.. I have no real objections to them (I look longingly at descriptions of nose job procedures); my only objection is the pain factor, which outweighs my immense vanity.

Conclusion: I have no 'Yea' or 'Nay'.. How about a 'Yay' instead? What do you think?

Dinner @ Skewers!

Ling and Thai took me to dinner for my birthday (so sweet right??), and there were a few venue choices:

Ling: So babe, where do you wanna go?
Me: *slightly panicky because I really suck balls at picking places to eat* Uh...... where do you wanna go?
Ling: Uh.. it's your birthday!
Me: I really dunno! *hyperventilating*

Okay, so that was a bit of an exaggeration. Just take out the hyperventilating and stick in 'unable to think of a single food place in Malaysia, let alone a nice place to have dinner', that's how it really was.

Anyway, the choices were Las Carretas in Taipan, Rakuzen in Empire, Skewers in Subang Avenue, and some Chinese place (dunno where). Since I had only recently read a really good review of Skewers, when the name popped up, I was like "Skewers sounds awesome!!".

A word to would-be customers:

Skewers is really quite happening, especially on football nights. MAKE RESERVATIONS. Or else you may end up:

Being seated; given a weird set menu, only to have it taken back because it is specifically for a private function; then have a lot of wait staff demanding what we're doing there, and if we're part of the private party to which we answer "Uh.. No? Is there a problem?" and some harried-looking waitress says "No, no, stay where you are". Later, a grumpy (or just stressed) waiter runs up and says "You cannot sit here, this table is for a private function", and we have to sit at the only table available, one of those tall ones for drinking. Then the private function guy comes to us and says "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to run you guys off, we're not using the table, so you can sit there if you want", and bingo, we're back where we started!

Moral of the story: Make reservations!

Of course, I think this is because Skewers is really new, and the staff were all a bit harried because of the party, and an event was supposed to start later (we didn't stay for that, but it looked like it would've been fun!).

And the manager (not too sure, maybe he's the owner but he definitely wasn't a waiter) has EXCELLENT customer service - he managed to turn our 'okay, not coming back here anymore *simmer*' to 'teeheehee not bad ar this place!', not just by being super attentive, and telling us which dishes were the bestsellers, but also by giving us

THIS!
A complimentary dessert on the house. Chocolate cake, I think. With CREAM (*tries to lick the computer screen*) on the top! Mmmm. I LIKE you, Mr. Manager/Owner. But I'm getting ahead of myself; I should show the main course first right? Bah. I is fail at food blogging.
So, main courses!

Thai had a sandwich, I think this is a Chicken.. Something. Sorry, I can't remember! It was a bit bland though, not really stupendously delicious. If it were, I'd remember its name, for sure.

Ling had Minty Lamb Skewers. Very nice, the minty sauce went well with the lamb and the buttered vegetables as well as the pilaf rice; but the lamb was quite fatty and therefore it was really hard to get a small bit off the stick! I was practically murdering the poor lamb again, the way I was trying to hack at it in my attempts to get a bite-sized piece of lamb. I ended up gnawing on it in a very unsophisticated manner.

And this here is mine: Rosemary Beef Skewers! Okay, it looks like the least yummy of the three, and the Manager/Owner didn't even list it amongst the best sellers (Minty Lamb is a number 2 best-seller, btw), but in our humble opinions, it was the nicest dish that night! Muahaha May Lee crever to pick food.
The rosemary went perfectly with the beef and the grilled pineapple, and the subtly herbed pilaf rice was a good complement to the flavourful beef and the tart sweetness of the pineapple. I kinda wish it came with some vegetables though, at least for the colour if nothing else.. My plate was all brown and yellow!

We've known each other since high school.Ling and I used to always kena from the prefects for 'Coli berwarna' and I came late to school almost every day. Now look at us being all grown up! *sniff*

And after the main course,
NOW it's appearing in the proper order!

Mmmm. Chocolate-y goodness.

And of course, the requisite camwhore photos!
You can see the Skewers sign in the background!

By the way, Subang Avenue is next door to the Carrefour in Subang Jaya, in case you were wondering. It's really quite a happening place to eat, drink some beer and watch football, as well as check out some hotties (and where there is good food, there will be hotties!). Just don't forget to make a reservation first!

Footy Footy Football

I wanted to talk about how Brazil got thrashed by a most unlikely (apparently) opponent - Netherlands, not too unlikely if you think about it since they haven't lost a match since the qualifying rounds.Add that to the ill-fated Melo whose own goal

Brazil: 'WTFFFFFF?!!"

followed soon thereafter with him releasing his frustration on Robben's leg (who faked agony almost as well as some girls fake orgasms, but hey, whatever works, right?)

"OHHH.. OOHHHHHH!!!"

and getting himself a red card.
There walketh Brazil's crushed dreams of hoisting that rather hideous embodiment of World Cup victory.

 Cantik meh?

AANYWAY. The Brazil-Netherlands game is still being reviewed in the papers, since there was a HUGE backlash by the volatile Brazilian fans. Melo, your life may be in danger.

As I was saying, I WANTED to talk about the game in detail, but my attention has been caught by this:

Germany Routs Argentina, Sends Diego Maradona Home

I watched the game last night (phwoar, where is the footy-hating girl now, eh? In hibernation, she will be back once World Cup is over!), and I think the rest of the world was as stupefied as I was. Don't get me wrong, I AM A GERMANY FAN! But still, watching Argentina get smashed into the ground was.. on one hand satisfying, and on the other (since I do like Argentina as well) very disturbing. Where was the Argentinian spirit? Why are all the South American teams getting thrashed by European ones? Maradona's face of ultimate defeat

The Hand of God

wrung my heart, even as it went 'WOOHOO!' at the sight of

"Ja! Vier Tore!"

all my happy Deutscher boys.

Towards the end of the match, Argentina really looked as though they were giving up under the unstoppable force that was the German team. Now, how about Germany at the finals eh? Please don't do a 2002 and flop at the finish line, Germany.

Deutschland ist Beste in aller Welt!
(I'm not sure if I'm grammatically correct, but the sentiment is absolutely sincere)

Touched

Emotionally, that is.

My birthday was definitely celebrated with lots of loved ones and friends (not necessarily all on the same day, mind) and I was reminded again and again how blessed and lucky I am to have all these people in my life! Yes folks, be warned - this post is a rather emo one.

First, my Form 6 friends had a small joint birthday celebration-cum-get together for me, Jerome and Moong Kiew..

Introducing... *drumroll* (almost) the whole 6 Damai bunch - the class known for gambling in school and making far too much noise!

Us at Ke-Yang's (the blurry guy up front in the picture before this one) house with my first jelly cake of the year. Yes, after looking at this photo I'm now aware that I clap like Paula Abdul.

Then, I had my awesome day out with my LoverBoy that was everything a birthday celebration should be, and more! And just when I thought the surprises were over, he managed to surprise me AGAIN, by showing up on my birthday with

THIS!
I love the absolute impracticality of flowers, as well as the incredible beauty they possess. Aren't they lovely? I've got gazillions of pictures of them; close ups, camwhore shots, you name it, I've taken it!

I even got a pressie from LB's parents! A Burberry Brit perfume set, in case you're wondering. Bless them.

My second jelly cake of the year, courtesy of LB (yes, my boyfriend is awesome. No, you can't have him. No, I will not accept yours in exchange, either!).
Actually, it's really not so much the STUFF, but the effort he put into everything that makes me slightly snuffly and watery when I think about it.

Ooops. Too over-eager to cut the cake and sink my teeth into that butterfly!

The restaurant owner was like "wah, is that your boyfriend ar? He spent 5 minutes arranging the candles on your cake! *insert chinese words here that mean that he really has the heart to do it well, sorry I is banana*". And I melted, again. Honestly, I have done nothing at all to merit Adam Riff. Fate, you've dealt me a good hand!

Not only do I have an A+ boyfriend, my friends are all top-scorers as well!

Lookit the gorgeous card Chrissy made me! BY HAND! As you can see in the picture above this one, there is a purple envelope with a Sleeping Beauty sticker on it.. Chrissy bought the WHOLE sticker sheet just for that one sticker because she knows I heart Sleeping Beauty. The feminist in me objects to the whole 'lie there and wait for your prince to save your arse' thing, but the Disney Princess lover in me goes 'SHE'S SO PWETTYY!!' (and oftentimes the DP lover's incoherent squealing drowns out the measured tones of the feminist).

And here is something my mum's friend's daughters (they are also her students, incidentally) made for me!
SO SWEET RIGHT?

Handmade by a 12 year old and a 7 year old. They are so cute! I don't even know how they knew it was my birthday. Kids really are the darnedest creatures, sometimes you want to strangle them (I'm not talking about these two, though), and sometimes they do things that make you melt and go all warm and gooey like butter in the sun.

But the funniest story is the one involving this
Sasa and Nana's pressie!

So this is what happened. During a recent sleepover at my house - you can read Sasa's account of it here because once I read hers I didn't bother to write my own since we'd have the same pics and everything - Sasa and Nana decided to surprise me on my birthday by leaving my pressie with my mum so that she could pass it to me on my birthday.

My mum being my mum, SHE FORGOT. And as it was a surprise, I had no idea about the existence of the present so I couldn't remind her. So the days passed with no response from me regarding the pressie, and Sasa and Nana were starting to get a little bit worried. On Tuesday, I received a cryptic text from Nana.

Nana: Hey babe, did your mum give you anything for your birthday?
Me: *thinking she meant FROM my mum* Yeeesss... why ar?
Nana: Oh, nothing.
Me: *hmmm*

Then, I got a message on Facebook from Sasa telling me that they got me a pressie, and to collect it from my mum. Me being me (IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY!), I forgot. So another day passed.. and on Thursday (earlier today), I suddenly remembered.

"MUM! Did Sasa and Nana give you anything to pass to me for my birthday??"
*pause*
"OH YA LAR!!! I FORGOT!!"
"YOU FORGOT MY BIRTHDAY PRESSIE??"

(This is a genuinely shocked expression, btw. I hate candid shots.)

So anyway, when we got home, she rushed to give me my pressie, and I called both Sasa and Nana to explain the whole sorry tale. Thank goodness they're both understanding people - more reason to love them to bits! I've already started on the chocs (making up for lost time!), yummm. If you want some, you know where to go.

Looking back on my 22nd, all I can say is that I am truly truly blessed to have so many awesome people in my life! <3 <3 <3 Thank you, friends and boyfriend alike, for walking into my life and deciding to stop and hang out.
